Last updated: 19 October 2026
Mr. Monroe B.V. ("we", "us", "our" or "Mr. Monroe") operates this online shop and website, including all related information, content, features, tools, products and services (the "Services"). Our Services are powered by Shopify. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use and share personal data when you visit or use our Services, place an order or make another transaction, or otherwise communicate with us.
Please read this privacy policy carefully. By using our Services, you confirm that you have read this policy and understand how we collect, use and share your data.
1. Who we are
Mr. Monroe B.V. is a Dutch coffee company, established at Lombokstraat 1a, 2103 TK Heemstede, the Netherlands, and registered with the Chamber of Commerce under number 93746245.
For the purposes of applicable data protection law, Mr. Monroe B.V. is the controller of your personal data.
2. What personal data we collect
Depending on how you use our Services, where you live and what is permitted or required by law, we may collect or process the following categories of personal data, including information inferred from it:
- Contact details – name, address, billing address, shipping address, phone number and email address.
- Financial information – payment card details, account details, transaction details, payment method and payment confirmations.
- Account information – email address, preferences and settings.
- Transaction information – products you view, add to your basket or wishlist, buy, return, exchange or cancel, and your previous orders.
- Communications – information you share with us, for example through a customer service request.
- Device information – information about your device, browser, network connection, IP address and other unique identifiers.
- Usage information – information about how and when you use or visit our Services.
Some of this data is necessary to conclude and perform our agreement with you. Without your name, shipping address and email address, we cannot process or deliver your order. Other information, such as your phone number or account preferences, is optional.
3. How we collect personal data
We collect personal data in the following ways:
- Directly from you – for example when you create an account, place an order, sign up for one of our events or contact us.
- Automatically through the Services – from your device when you visit our website, and through cookies and similar technologies.
- From our service providers – for example parties we engage for payment processing, shipping or customer service.
- From our partners or other third parties.
4. How we use personal data
We may use your data for the following purposes:
Providing, tailoring and improving our Services.
We use your data to process orders, handle payments, arrange shipping, facilitate returns and exchanges, manage your account and offer you a personalised shopping experience, for example by recommending products that match your previous purchases.
Marketing and advertising.
With your consent, we email you about our coffee and news from Mr. Monroe, and show you personalised advertisements on other websites. You can give consent by ticking the box at checkout or signing up on our website, and withdraw it at any time through the unsubscribe link in every email or the cookie settings on our website.
One exception: if you leave checkout before completing your order, we may send you a single email reminding you of your basket. It contains an unsubscribe link, and we will not send it again after you unsubscribe.
Profiling and automated decisions.
We use information about what you view and buy to tailor our emails and, with your consent, the advertisements you see on other websites. This is a form of profiling. We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Security and fraud prevention.
We use your data to verify your account, provide a secure payment and shopping experience, and detect and investigate potentially fraudulent, illegal or harmful activity.
Communicating with you.
We use your data to provide customer service and maintain our relationship with you. If you attend one of our events, we use the details you gave when signing up to organise the event and to send you a thank-you email afterwards. Apart from the checkout reminder described above, we only send you marketing emails if you have given your consent.
Legal obligations.
We use your data to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests from public authorities, and enforce our terms or policies.
Legal basis (for visitors in the EU/EEA and the UK)
We process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract – to process orders, payments and shipping, and to organise events you have signed up for.
- Consent – for marketing emails and other marketing communications, personalised advertising, and analytics and marketing cookies.
- Legitimate interests – for security, fraud prevention, improving our Services, a single reminder after an unfinished checkout and a thank-you email after our events.
- Legal obligation – for example for tax and accounting obligations.
5. How we share personal data
In certain circumstances, we may share your data with third parties for legitimate purposes, including:
- With Shopify and other service providers that perform services on our behalf (such as IT management, payment processing, data analytics, customer service, cloud storage, fulfilment and shipping).
- With business and marketing partners to provide marketing services and advertise, provided you have given your consent.
- When you ask us to or consent to it, for example to ship products to you.
- In connection with a business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition or bankruptcy, or to comply with legal obligations.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. We use three kinds:
- Strictly necessary cookies – required for the shop to work, such as your basket and login. These are always active.
- Analytics cookies – help us understand how our website is used, so we can improve it.
- Marketing cookies – placed by us and by third parties, such as advertising and social media platforms, to measure our advertising and show you relevant advertisements on other websites.
We only place analytics and marketing cookies with your consent, which we ask for through the cookie banner on your first visit, in accordance with the GDPR and the Dutch Telecommunications Act. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the cookie settings on our website or in your browser.
7. Our relationship with Shopify
Our Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal data about your access to and use of the Services in order to provide and improve them for you. Information you submit through the Services is transmitted to and shared with Shopify and with third parties that may be located in countries other than the one in which you live.
For certain enhanced features, Shopify uses data about your interactions with our shop, along with your interactions with other merchants and with Shopify. In those cases, Shopify is responsible for processing your personal data for those purposes. You can find more information in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy at privacy.shopify.com.
8. Third-party websites and links
Our Services may contain links to websites or platforms operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy or security policies of these third parties. We recommend that you review their policies before sharing any personal data with them.
9. Children's data
Our Services are not intended for use by children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of majority in your jurisdiction. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has provided us with personal data, please contact us using the details at the end of this policy to request its deletion.
10. Security and retention
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data. However, no security measure is completely watertight, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep your personal data for no longer than necessary for the purposes for which it was collected. In practice, this means:
- Account information – for as long as you have an active account with us, plus a reasonable period afterwards.
- Transaction and invoice data – we keep this for 7 years, in line with the Dutch statutory tax retention obligation.
- Marketing data (such as email preferences) – until you unsubscribe or object.
- Event sign-up details – for up to 1 year after the event. If you have also signed up for our marketing emails, we keep your email address for that purpose until you unsubscribe.
- Customer service communications – for up to 2 years after your request has been dealt with, unless a longer retention period is required by law.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights in relation to your personal data. These rights are not absolute and may be refused in certain cases where the law allows.
- Right of access – you can ask which personal data we hold about you.
- Right to erasure – you can ask us to delete your personal data.
- Right to rectification – you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to data portability – in certain cases, you can receive a copy of your data or have it transferred to a third party.
- Managing communication preferences – you can unsubscribe from marketing messages at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails. We will still send you non-promotional emails (such as order confirmations).
Additional rights for residents of the EEA and the UK
- Objection and restriction of processing – you can ask us to stop or restrict the processing of your data for certain purposes.
- Withdrawal of consent – where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
You can exercise these rights by contacting us using the details at the end of this policy. We may verify your identity before processing a request, as permitted or required by applicable law.
12. Complaints
If you have a complaint about how we process your personal data, please contact us using the details at the end of this policy. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. In the Netherlands, this is the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
13. International data transfers
Mr. Monroe sells products worldwide. This means your personal data may be transferred, stored and processed outside the country in which you live, including in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA), such as the United States.
When we transfer personal data from the EEA or the United Kingdom to a country that does not offer an adequate level of protection, we rely on recognised transfer mechanisms, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent agreements issued by the competent UK authority.
14. Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised policy on this website, update the "Last updated" date and notify you as required by law.
